Man dies after ATV collides with van

LONE PINE — A 69-year-old east Idaho man is dead after succumbing to injures sustained after his ATV collided with a van on Friday.

John Steele of Salmon died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

Idaho State Police report Steele, was driving a 2013 Honda ATV northbound on the right side road edge, crossing a bridge on SH28 at milepost 51, near Lone Pine. Cajsa Allen, 40, of Salmon, was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna Van, also northbound.

Allen moved over into the southbound lane to go around Steele. As Allen passed, Steele turned left running into the side of Allen’s vehicle. Steele was ejected off the ATV and landed on the highway.

Steele was air lifted to Eastern EIRMC. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

ISP was assisted by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The crash is still under investigation.
