Pilot turns flight around to save dog

(CNN) – The cargo areas of planes often have heating systems, but when they’re not working properly, temperatures can quickly dip below the freezing point.

When an Air Canada pilot saw there was a heating malfunction on the aircraft he was flying from Tel Aviv to Toronto, he rerouted the plane to save the life of a dog traveling in the cargoarea.

The issue was noticed just before the flight was to begin the long trek across the Atlantic Ocean.

Embracing what may have been the last opportunity to land, the pilot changed course and touched down in Frankfurt, Germany.

Simba, a 7-year-old French bulldog, was moved to another plane.

The canine’s owner was incredibly grateful, saying, “It’s my dog, it’s like my child. It’s everything to me.”

Many other passengers had a favorable response to the reroute as well, even though it delayed their trip by roughly 75 minutes.
