“Empire” Star Grace Gealey Finally Confirms Engagement to Co-Star Trai Byers

Michael Lavine/FOX(NEW YORK) — Two months after reports surfaced that two stars of the hit Fox series Empire — Trai Byers and Grace Gealey — got engaged, the actress finally confirmed the news on Tyra Banks’ new syndicated talk show, FABLife.
“I’m engaged,” she told Banks and the other panelists during Tuesday’s episode, to applause.
Gealey also explained why her relationship with Byers works, even on set. “I think that if you do get involved… at your workplace, you have to know that this is something that you want to be invested in and this is not something that is frivolous and fleeting,” she said. “And to have the maturity to know that if this doesn’t work out, you’re not going to throw staplers at the other person.”
If Gealey and Byers do get into a squabble, it’ll be on camera: Byers plays the eldest son of the Lyon family, while Gealey portrays the ex-girlfriend of Terrence Howard’s label head, Lucious Lyon.
Back in July, People magazine reported Gealey and Byers were headed down the aisle.
Empire airs Wednesday nights on Fox at 9 p.m. Eastern.
