Idaho State Bengals Return to Big Sky Play with a trip to Cal Poly

The Idaho State football team returns to Big Sky Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a 7 p.m. (MDT) time kickoff at Cal Poly. Jerry Miller and Mark Liptak will call the action live on 101.1 KEIR. To follow the contest online with live audio, video and stats log onto isubengals.com.

Cal Poly is 1-3 and averaging 22.2 points a game while giving up 33.2 points. The offense is netting 387.2 yards a game with 330 coming on the ground. Opponents have averaged 507.2 yards of total offense. Quarterback Chris Brown is averaging 99.2 rushing yards a game and running back Joe Protheroe leads the way at 108.2. Tu’uta Inoke is the top tackler with 40.

Series vs. Cal Poly
Cal Poly leads the series 12-7. The Bengals defeated the Mustangs 30-28 last year in Pocatello. The last time the two teams met in San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly defeated ISU 70-14 on Nov. 10, 2012. Prior to the 2014 season, Cal Poly had won the last five meetings.

– Saturday’s game captains were Kamino Ward, Tavonte Jackson, Christian Diehm, Xavier Finney.
– Temperature was 99 degrees at kickoff.
– Sean Cheney saw his first collegiate action as a punter and he also handled kickoff duties after Zak Johnson became unavailable. Cheney had five punts for an average of 30.4 yards a kick.
– CJ Hatchett has caught 12 passes in his career at ISU. Four have been for touchdowns and he caught the two-point conversion on ISU’s first score.
– Madison Mangum had a season high receiving yards with 98.
– ISU is 0-24 vs. FBS opponents since beating Utah State 27-24 at Logan in in 2000.

– Josh Cook has caught a pass in 23 straight games.
– Madison Mangum has caught a pass in 16 straight games. His three receptions vs. Portland State was his fewest since the 2013 season.
– CJ Hatchett has caught 12 passes in his career. Four of the 12 have been for touchdowns. He also caught a two-point conversion at UNLV.
– Xavier Finney had nine 100-yard plus rushing games in 2014, the most in the Big Sky Conference in 2014.
– Mario Jenkins and Taison Manu are unavailable for the 2015 season.
– Jakori Ford’s 201 rushing yards in a game is the most by a Big Sky Player this season.
– Xavier Finney has 11 100-yard rushing games, tied for the most out of any active Big Sky player.
– Madison Mangum has seven 100-yard receiving games, the second most among active players in the Big Sky.
– Through four games, the Idaho State defense ranks seventh in the nation in pass defense at 137.8 yards a game.
