Justine Siegal, who was the first woman to throw batting practice for a Major League Baseball team, will assist the A’s player development staff on and off the field, the team says. Siegal has previously coached baseball professionally as a first-base coach for the independent league Brockton Rox, and as an assistant coach for the Springfield College baseball team.

Siegal is the founder of Baseball For All, a non-profit that seeks to provide opportunities in baseball for everyone, especially for girls.

“We’re thrilled that Justine will be joining us for Instructional League,” David Frost, the A’s assistant general manager said in a press release. “She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise from years of playing, coaching, and teaching the game, and all of our young players stand to benefit greatly from her time in camp.”

On Twitter, Siegal said she was “honored and grateful” for the opportunity, calling baseball “a game for all.”
