US Men’s National Team Succumbs to Mexico in CONCACAF Cup
Published at | Updated at(PASADENA, Calif.) — Team USA lost to Mexico 3-2 in the CONCACAF Cup on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl after a thrilling period of extra time.
The teams were tied 1-1 after regulation – Mexican star Javier Herndandez opened the scoring before Geoff Cameron equalized for the United States.
During extra time, Oribe Peralta gave Mexico the lead before Bobby Wood again evened the scoreboard.
Finally, with two minutes to go and the match seemingly headed to penalties, Paul Aguilar struck a stunning volley past US goalkeeper Brad Guzan into the bottom left corner of the net.
Mexico will now represent CONCACAF (the North and Central American division of FIFA) at the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017.
