SLOW DOWN: Many crashes, rollovers reported on I-15 south of Blackfoot

FORT HALL — Authorities are advising the public to use extreme caution when traveling as there is severe traffic congestion south of Blackfoot on I-15 due to the many crashes and slide-offs.

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland told EastIdahoNews.com at 3 p.m. the county is currently responding to four accidents on I-15. Idaho State Police are responding to at least four more. Several of the accidents involve multiple vehicles. All these accidents occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

As of 4 p.m., the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office reported there had been a total of 18 accidents on I-15, including slide offs, accidents, and rollovers. Crashes include commercial vehicles, cars, trucks and semi-trucks.

Many of the accidents are between milepost 79 and 87 on I-15. Additionally, Bingham County is also responding to a accident on U.S. Highway 91.

Traffic has slowed and is backed up in both northbound and southbound lanes on I-15.

Thus far no one has been transported, Rowland said.

“Slow down and give yourselves lots of distance between cars,” Rowland said. “It’s going to be slick all night.”

Information from police scanners indicates Idaho State Police, Fort Hall Police, the Bingham County Sheriff’s Department are all responding to many accidents along with emergency responders from multiple regional agencies.

The Idaho Transportation Department reports it is snowing on I-15. Roads conditions are snowy and very slick. Law and road officials report blowing snow with visibility between 100 yards and 0.31 miles. Wind speed is 13.4 mph and gusting up to 20.1 mph.
