The following is a news release from Brigham Young University-Idaho.

REXBURG — A Baroque version of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” will be performed by the Brigham Young University-Idaho Baroque Ensemble and Collegiate Singers on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.

Under the direction of Collegiate Singers director Randall Kempton, the performance will feature authentic historic instruments, guest artists and student soloists.

Robert Tueller, director of the Baroque Ensemble, said a similar Baroque-era concert was last performed at BYU-Idaho in 2011. The students will use Handel’s original scoring.

“We’re excited to revisit it,” Tueller said. “The students get a chance to discover the roots of their own instruments.”

He added, “There is a lighter character to the concert. It’s not so heavy as a modern performance. It will sound more like it may have during Handel’s time.”

Tickets for the concert are $6 for the general public and $3 for BYU-Idaho students. Tickets can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling (208) 496-3170 or online at tickets.byui.edu
