Man runs naked through Utah park in freezing temperatures before being tased
Published at | Updated atLOGAN, Utah — A Logan man is behind bars Monday after police said he ran naked through a public park and was tased by an officer.
The incident started when a call came in from a witness who was driving by the Logan Skate Park saying he saw a possibly intoxicated man running around naked carrying a big rock.
By the time police arrived, 22-year-old Oscar Gutierrez had put his pants back on, but he was still carrying a large boulder.
“Officers tried to make contact with him,” said Logan police Capt. Tyson Budge. “He was unresponsive in a manner that was consistent with someone who was impaired, or under the influence of some kind of controlled substance.”
An officer in a patrol car followed Gutierrez across the park.
“The man then completely disrobed and was fully naked,” Budge said.
Police said they tried to talk with Gutierrez several times, but he never responded. Instead, police said he continued walking with the boulder in one hand and charged at one of the officers.
That’s when the officer fired his Taser, causing Gutierrez to fall to the ground.
Police said it was about 25 degrees at the time.
Police are waiting for results from a toxicology screening to see if Gutierrez was impaired.
For now, he is behind bars being held on potential charges for lewdness and interfering with an arrest, police said.
