IDAHO FALLS – Police are investigating an attempted burglary at a residence in the 800 block of Pescadero Place that occurred Thursday morning.

According to a news release, the burglary investigation prompted a temporary “shelter in place” at Longfellow Elementary School for less than an hour as police looked for the burglary suspect.

Officers say they responded to a residence on Pescadero Place around 11:30 a.m. after a home owner reported an unknown person entered his residence. It’s believed the suspect was surprised to find someone home at the time.

The suspect did fire a gun before fleeing on foot, according to police.

As officers combed the area for the suspect, school officials at Longfellow Elementary School were notified and advised to “shelter in place” for safety.
