IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Falls Police Department and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s office retired two K9 units today after 20 years of combined service.

A celebration was held for Zeke and Bart at the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue building in Idaho Falls.

Idaho Falls Police Chief Mark K. McBride and the Bonneville County Sherif Paul J. Wilde both spoke and expressed their gratitude to the K9s and their handlers. Both stated how much the dogs will be missed and wished them a happy retirement.

Each handler spoke about how much their dogs have helped and how great it was to work with them. The officers were presented with plaques and a comparative collage of the dogs.

“It was a lot of fun, even though it was hard sometimes,” said Idaho Falls police officer Jeanette Johnson, Zeke’s handler. “I enjoyed it.”

The dogs have officially been retired and will replaced by other K9 units soon.

“He can now hang out at home like a bum,” said Bonneville County Sgt. Chris Smith, Bart’s Handler. “He can look forward now to a few years of camping, playing, and just being a dog.”
