As of Sunday night, over 1,500 flights in the country were canceled and at least 9,500 were delayed, according to FlightAware.

At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, at least 675 flights were canceled and at least 644 were delayed on Sunday according to FlightAware. Several tornadoes were reported in the Dallas area on Saturday that left at least 11 dead and caused widespread damage to homes and buildings.

Moira James told ABC News she and her family of six were supposed to fly from Dallas on Sunday to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but her flight was among the canceled.

“I realize that there’s been terrible weather in Houston and I’m sorry for what has happened here, but it does seem like the airlines aren’t able to cope with this kind of weather,” she said to ABC News.

James said she and her family now have to drive to Houston with hopes of catching another flight from there on Monday.

“I would call it a nightmare, yes…that’s a good way to put it,” she said about the cancellations. “I would call it living hell is what it’s been.”
