REXBURG — Idaho Fish and Game officers responded to a call Saturday afternoon of an Elk roaming through a Rexburg residential area.

The elk was first spotted near The Ridge and Aspen Village apartments on East 5th South and Yale, officials say.

After Idaho Fish and Game officer tranquilized the elk, it became frightened and began running and jumped a fence.

The elk finally settled into James and JoAnn Greene’s backyard on South 3rd East.

“He wandered around, staggered and made it over to here and fell down,” James Greene said.

JoAnn Greene says she was making dinner when she saw the elk appear in their back yard.

JoAnn says it was nice to see officers treat the animal so humanely.

A mail carrier, police officer, and neighbors assisted officers in pulling the elk into a trailer before the animal was hauled away.
