IDAHO FALLS — The Bonneville Education Foundation recently awarded $11,738.26 to local teachers in Bonneville Joint School District 93.

The foundation received 56 applicants and awarded 15 schools with various amounts ranging from $65 all the way up to $2,799.14 at Rocky Mountain Middle School. Teachers or groups of teachers are able to apply for grants for anything that will help them reach goals they set in the classroom.

“Teachers ask for all sorts of things,” said foundation spokeswoman Patti Wade said. “It’s almost like Christmas.”

Requests vary from books and technology to things like and ant farm, which was approved. Each request must provide specific reasons why the item is needed and what goals will be met.

β€œIn every case these teachers will be able to accomplish very well thought-out, specific classroom instruction goals that they could not have done without this award,” board chairman, Shelley Andrus said in a press release.

The foundation uses funds left-over from years past and set aside funds as well. This year the foundation was able to award nearly double the amount it did last year.
