POCATELLO — A brother and sister were arrested for felony aggravated battery Friday, Jan. 1, after police say they hit and bit another individual.

Margie Lynn Higgins, 48, and John Edward Kautz, 45, had been drinking on New Years Eve with Higgins’ex-husband at a bar when Higgins became unruly and the three decided to go to the home of Higgins ex-husband, Pocatello police spokeswoman Dianne Brush told EastIdahoNews.com.

The three began to argue and call each other names, which led to Higgins and Kautz attacking the ex-husband. Brush said the brother and sister hit the victim with their fists and other items. At one point Kautz pinned the victim to the ground, while Higgins bit him. The victim managed to escape and call an ambulance.

The following morning police went to the residence of the ex-husband and found Higgins and Kautz still inside. The two were brought to the police station where Higgins complained of a hand injury and was brought to Portneuf Medical Center where she was treated then arrested for aggravated battery.

Kautz was arrested for aggravated battery while at the Pocatello Police Station. He also was arrested for trying to conceal or destroy evidence after he dumped a bag that had contained marijuana on the floor of the police station. As a result he was also arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The two Chubbuck residents were booked into the Bannock County Jail. Bonds have been set at $30,000 for Higgins and $40,000 for Kautz.
