The special reason why I.F.’s new fire station is being built where it is
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS – The Idaho Falls Fire Department wants to make sure the 343 firefighters killed on Sept. 11, 2001 are never forgotten.
That’s why the city’s newest fire station is being built at 343 E. Street in downtown Idaho Falls.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department, city leaders and others gathered for a groundbreaking on Fire Station One on Friday, Jan 8. The Idaho Falls Fire Department Pipes & Drums provided entertainment.
The new station will replace the current facility that shares a building with City Hall on Shoup Ave.
“Fire Station One will take about a year to complete and it will house 11 fire department personal and have administration offices,” Idaho Falls Fire Chief Dave Hanneman said.
Morgan Construction now has control of the site and will begin working on the building soon.
“Our intent is to break ground on or before March 15th with a construction schedule for completion of approximately 12 months,” Ryan Gregersen of Morgan Construction told EastIdahoNews.com. “Our intent will be to deliver the project 30-60 days sooner if at all possible.”
