Woman arrested for allegedly waving gun during funeral

IDAHO FALLS — A 52-year-old Idaho Falls woman is in custody after allegedly waving a firearm in the air during a funeral.
Police reports show Idaho Falls Police officers and Bonneville County deputies responded to a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‐day Saints chapel at 2055 Coronado St. around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20. Authorities had received information that a woman had a handgun and was threatening an LDS bishop and others, police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen told EastIdahoNews.com.
The woman, identified as Kimberly Dodge of Idaho Falls, was disarmed, detained and booked into the Bonneville County Jail for felony aggravated assault for waving the gun during the service.
Witnesses told officers that Dodge had gotten up and began saying strange and inappropriate things during the service. When she was asked to refrain from saying certain things, Dodge became upset and pulled out a gun.
Funeral attendees exited the chapel. The bishop and others stayed and attempted to calm Dodge down and get her to put the gun down. Once police arrived they were able to disarm Dodge, without further incident or injury to anyone.
The funeral reconvened, and officers stood by until the end of the services.
