Battery charge dropped against former Shelley athletic director

SHELLEY — Charges against former Shelley High School Athletic Director David Hadley were dropped last Friday – just a few days after he resigned from his position.

“The resignation is in no way an admission of guilt to the battery charge. Mr. Hadley has asserted and maintained his innocence to that charge,” said Shane T. Reichert, Hadley’s attorney, in a news release.

Hadley resigned from his position unexpectedly last week.

Shelley City Prosecutor Garrett Sandow tells EastIdahoNews.com the decision to drop the charges was reached two weeks ago. Prosecutors and the family agreed to drop the misdemeanor charge if Hadley resigned from his position.

“Everyone involved seemed happy and we were able to resolve it quicker than going to trial,” Sandow said. “The victims were happy with the decision and we are satisfied with the resolution.”

Hadley was concerned that his students and colleagues will judge him on inaccurate information that does not provide the entire story rather than his dedication and commitment as a teacher over the past 20 plus years, according to the release.
Hadley’s conduct as an athletic director had been a point of contention by district parents at a recent school board meeting.

Due to these circumstances Hadley decided to resign and will now explore new professional interests, the release said. The district accepted Hadley’s resignation and has appointed Wade Messick as the interim athletic director.
