Rigby man, out of jail on rape charge, allegedly rapes teenage girl

IDAHO FALLS — A Rigby man, currently out of jail on bond for a rape charge, now faces two additional rape charges in Bonneville County.

Trevor Johnston, 19, was arrested Sunday, Jan. 31 and is currently being held in the Bonneville County Jail.

In November, Johnston was charged with rape in Jefferson County after an alleged sexual encounter with a teenage girl in July. He posted bond and was released from jail on Dec. 9.

Four days later, court documents show Johnston met a 14-year-old girl on Facebook. He allegedly said he was 17 and the victim told police he talked her into having sex while her parents were out of town.

Court documents show on Jan. 30, Johnston and the victim, who had turned 15, met up, drank alcohol and had sex in an Idaho Falls home. Documents say the girl stated Johnston did not force her to have sex but “she said no three times and then just gave up.”

The next day, documents show the girl told her mother about what allegedly happened. The mother called police and took her daughter to the hospital. Johnston was arrested a few hours later.

Documents state Johnston admitted to detectives “he had been in trouble for being with underage girls before” so he asked the victim to show him an identification card. Johnston said it showed she was 18.

During questioning, court documents show Johnston admitted to having sex with the girl twice – and police say he admitted that he knew the girl’s age during the second encounter.

Johnston is facing two felony rape of a child charges. Bond has been set at $25,000.

Johnston is scheduled for a court hearing in Jefferson County on Thursday, Feb. 4.

He is scheduled to appear in a Bonneville County court hearing on Thursday, Feb. 10.
