Idaho Falls man arrested for allegedly strangling ex-girlfriend

IDAHO FALLS — A 35-year-old man is in jail after allegedly hitting and choking an Idaho Falls woman in front of several children.

Idaho Falls Police responded to a reported domestic assault during the afternoon on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Court documents show when officers arrived at the home, a female said she had been assaulted by an ex-boyfriend earlier that afternoon in a vehicle with her children.

Shortly after dispatchers took the call, the ex-boyfriend, identified as Jereme Ogren, arrived at the police station on his own. Ogren told police his ex-girlfriend was calling and would say that he had hit her. Ogren denied any wrongdoing in the incident.

The woman told police the incident was the result of an argument that culminated in her being slapped and then choked. During the investigation, the woman showed officers “red marks on the left side of her neck. There were four obvious marks, consistent with the shape of fingers,” according to court documents. The woman told police the marks were the result of Ogren choking her.

During the incident, Ogren also is alleged to have threatened to kill her and prevented her from leaving the vehicle as he drove around Idaho Falls.

Court documents show the woman requested several times to be taken home. Ogren refused to do so until she agreed to not contact police. After 20 to 30 minutes the victim wanted to appease Ogren, so she agreed.

Once back at the woman’s home, Ogren left and she called police, according to police reports.

Ogren was booked into Bonneville County Jail for felony second degree kidnapping, felony attempted strangulation and felony domestic violence in the presence of children. Bonneville County prosecutors did not pursue the second degree kidnapping charge. He is being held on a $40,000 bond.

In early 2013, court documents show Ogren was arrested and charged with felony attempted strangulation against the same woman. The charges were lowered to misdemeanor domestic battery, to which Ogren pleaded guilty.
