The following is a news release from the Idaho National Laboratory.

IDAHO FALLS —- Idaho National Laboratory’s Research Library recently launched a new online portal that will provide public access to nearly 12,000 documents related to nuclear energy programs, environmental and waste management and site-specific concerns.

This effort complements the INL Research Library’s digital repository, which offers more than 18,000 scientific and technical documents.

The launch of the Department of Energy Idaho Operations Office Public Reading Room concludes a six-month digitization project and allows existing print-only materials to be accessed online, worldwide. All documents and reports are now available online only.

“INL has digitized files for the online portal to better meet the access needs of the public by removing some of the geographical, financial and other barriers associated with a physical collection,” said Denise Stephens, INL’s chief information officer. “This digitization provides broader access to historical and ongoing INL research.”

The digital files are available on a publicly accessible website and can be viewed using a single search box that allows for full-text keyword searching of entire documents. However, hard copies of documents cannot be provided. Individuals can download and print documents on their own or seek assistance from their local public libraries, which typically offer low-cost printing.

The INL Research Library will continue to provide access to information, staffing and research assistance for the DOE-ID Public Reading Room. The library works closely with the Idaho Operations Office and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer to maintain the collection and deliver information to the public. The INL Research Library Digital Repository can be viewed at https://inldigitallibrary.inl.gov/.

INL is part of the Department of Energy’s complex of national laboratories. The laboratory performs work in each of DOE’s strategic goal areas: energy, national security, science and environment. INL is the nation’s leading center for nuclear energy research and development. Day-to-day management and operation of the laboratory is the responsibility of Battelle Energy Alliance.
