IDAHO FALLS — Recently the Greater Idaho Falls Area Public Affairs Council of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint launched a new community service oriented website called JustServe.org. Just Serve provides individuals, families and groups in the community opportunities to relieve suffering, care for the poor and needy, and enhance the quality of life in east Idaho.
“The JustServe website is an awesome tool to bring individuals, families and groups together with organizations in need of service volunteers,” states Dwight Whittaker, JustServe Co-coordinator for the Greater Idaho Falls Area with his wife Kay Whittaker. “Over the last several months we have been introducing the program in the community with great success and now we are ready to let everyone in the area know this great tool is available for use and get them signed up!”
The website is easy to use. First individuals register at JustServe.org. They can do this on their computer or with the handy app. Once registered on the website they can regularly look for opportunities to serve by zip code. Those opportunities to serve are placed on the website by local community organizations in need of volunteers to accomplish their missions and project goals.
Doug Nelson, Director of Public Affairs for the Greater Idaho Falls Area says, “Our goal is to have everyone in the community signed up to participate on JustServe and then have community organizations regularly place their service opportunities on the website. It’s a matchmaking website for those who want to serve and organizations who need volunteers.”
In Matthew 22:39 we are instructed “Thou shalt love thy neighbor” and that is what JustServe.org is all about. We are proclaiming February 8 through February 14, “Love Thy Neighbor Week” and encourage members of the community, if they haven’t already done so, to register themselves on JustServe as an act of love and then regularly serve at various organizations through out the year.
