The following is a press release from the Teton County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSON, Wyoming — On Sunday, Feb. 21, a 30-year-old Jackson man, identified as Ernesto Rodriguez-Becerra, walked on to the cornice overlooking the back side of Grand Targhee Resort in a small saddle between the observation deck and “Nit Wits”.

According to a Teton County Sheriff’s Office news release, part of the cornice broke free and Rodriguez-Becerra fell into the rocky cliffs below. The falling snow covered him after he came to rest at the bottom of the cliffs.

Rodriguez-Becerra was located under the snow by an avalanche dog and dug out by Grand Targhee Resort Ski Patrol.

An AED was deployed and CPR was started, but life saving efforts were not successful.
