Stolen Purse Returned to Owner 14 Years Later

OKLAHOMA CITY — A purse that disappeared more than a decade ago from the First National Bank building was found and is en route to its rightful owner.

Julie Curry was in this same building 14 years ago.

“She was a court reporter at the time, and she was on the 16th floor with an attorney,” Bill Sipp, Curry’s husband, told NewsChannel 4.

Sipp recalled his wife dealing with a hostile witness the day her purse went missing.

Inside were her glasses, personal pictures, credit cards and more.

Sipp said he never thought they would ever find the purse.

More than a decade later, the couple got an unexpected call from Heath Glenn, a superintendent with JE Dunn Construction.

He’s working on a structural investigation of the First National Bank Building for potential owners.

“Moving the ceiling tile, and that’s when I started hitting something,” Glenn said.”We find stuff all the time, but I’ve never found anything like this.”

A business card inside Curry’s purse led him to the couple, who now live in Cherokee, Kansas.

“It will be interesting, like a time capsule when it shows up,” Sipp said. “She can look through there and see what maybe she didn’t even realize she had in there.”

For Sipp, he said this proves kindness still exists.

“There’s a lot of good people out there that keep things moving forward instead of going backwards,” Sipp said.
