Adult Spelling Bee to be held in Idaho Falls tonight

IDAHO FALLS — It’s a night for lexophiles, super spellers and word wizards.

Tonight the Idaho Falls School District 91 Education Foundation is hosting the Come Get Stung Adult Spelling Bee at the Keefer’s Island Convention Center at 780 Lindsay Boulvardin Idaho Falls. Doors will open at 6 p.m., cocktails are at 6:30 p.m. and the bee starts at 7 p.m. The event is expected to last until 10 p.m.

“Education matters now more than ever,” Foundation Executive Director Marilou Hart said. “This seemed like a great way to integrate education and fundraising … to support and provide grants and scholarships to students and teachers in District 91 schools.”

During the spelling bee, teams of three will collaborate to correctly spell a word given by a judge. Words will be written on a whiteboard so no one has to verbally spell the world. White boards are then concealed until judges request they be presented. A correctly spelled work advanced the team to the next word, and an incorrect word will result in the team being “swatted” from the bee, according to a news release.

EastIdahoNews.com has a team that will be participating in the event.

Awards will be given for teams with the best costume, best team spirit and for most supporters in the audience.

Tickets are $25 per person. A no-host bar and appetizers will be available at the event.

All proceeds are used to support the D91 Education Foundation and grant and scholarship programs through the foundation.
