The following is a news release from the Idaho Department of Transportation.

RIGBY — A project to make critical maintenance and safety repairs to eight bridges on U.S. 20 between Idaho Falls and Ashton starts Monday. Repairs are being funded by $1.1 million in new transportation revenue from the general fund surplus.

Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph, beginning at County Line (Exit 318) bridges south of Rigby.

Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs. Work on the first three overpasses of the project is scheduled for completion in late May.

Crews will replace expansion joints and patch deck and parapet. In addition, they will steel-shot blast the overpass decks and then seal them with epoxy resin and crushed rock for improved weather and skid resistance. Workers will start with passing lanes.

After sealing County Line bridges, crews will repair and seal Hitt (Exit 313) and Menan-Lorenzo (Exit 325) overpasses.

Starting in August, other bridges being repaired are the Ririe Outlet (north of Hitt interchange), Texas Slough (near Thornton), South Rexburg Interchange, Middle Rexburg Interchange and Fall River (south of Ashton).

The Idaho Transportation Board selected 17 road and bridge projects across Idaho in December 2015 for maintenance and repair work. The projects are all funded by the $54.1 million in general fund surplus provided by the Idaho Legislature last year. Selections came from a pool of projects based on analysis of each project’s return on investment in the areas of safety, mobility, economic opportunity, bridge condition, and right-of-way purchases.

Here’s a list of all the projects from both the general fund surplus revenue and the new user-fee revenue. http://itd.idaho.gov/revenue/surplus.html
