Fremont School District closer to getting new superintendent

ST. ANTHONY — Fremont County Joint School District 215 has narrowed its search for a superintendent down to five candidates.

The board has been meeting over the past few days to choose from 17 applicants.

The Idaho School Board Association has been helping the board with the process of finding a new superintendent.

“It’s been a lot of work,” said trustee Marcia Murdoch. “The challenge is the school board has no experience with this, but the ISBA (Idaho School Board Association) has been really helpful.”

The names of the five candidates will not be released until Wednesday, April 20. That’s when the board will begin conducting interviews and holding two meet-and-greets for the community. South Fremont High School will host a meet-and-greet from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and North Fremont High School will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“The community has been really interested in the process, and this will give them a chance to meet the candidates,” Murdoch said. The board hopes that patrons will use this time to meet the candidates and aid in the board’s decision.

The current superintendent, Garry Parker, will retire in June. The board hopes to have a candidate in place by then.
