Power pole along 17th disconnected after arcing twice

IDAHO FALLS — A power pole in the Java Express parking area on 17th Street was shut down after it began arcing around midday Sunday.

Several nearby businesses and homes were temporarily without power as a result.

Emergency responders arrived to the scene twice. The first time was just before noon, and Idaho Falls Power workers were able to stop the arcing. However, witnesses say about 15 minutes later the arcing began again.

Police have now left the scene. Idaho Falls Power is still working to fix damaged to the pole.

The arcing was limited to a switch at the top of the pole. No power lines went down and damage was limited to the top of the pole. Traffic along the road was not affected.

Linemen at the scene tell EastIdahoNews.com the pole is relatively new and was installed in the last couple of months.
