Woman’s Facebook Message on Sexual Assault Goes Viral

LOVELAND, Colo. — A personal video posted on Facebook brought unexpected attention for a Loveland woman.

Catherine St. Germain posted the video on Friday and said she didn’t expect much.

“I had less than 200 friends on Facebook when I posted this video, I was hoping for maybe 50 shares,” St. Germain told Fox 31 Denver.

But the video surpassed all her expectations. By Tuesday night, nearly 50 million people had viewed her message, which details how her ex-husband sexually assaulted her 15-year-old daughter. That man, Aaron Scott, was released from his 90-day jail sentence Tuesday.

“He was a former cop with three kids of his own. Why wouldn’t you trust him with your kids? He was a psychopath,” St. Germain said.

St. Germain has received messages from as far away as Africa, many from sexual assault survivors.

“There’s a woman who lives in Estes Park, which is near me. She said she felt completely alone and isolated until she saw the video,” St. Germain said.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and St. Germain hopes her story helps people look for possible signs.

“He always bought her extravagant gifts. He always wanted to take her for ice cream if she was sad,” St. Germain said.

St. Germain hopes people actively search sex offender data bases not just for people around them but for specific names
