BOISE — The EastIdahoNews.com crew spent time in the state capital this weekend — visiting with journalists from around the Gem State and accepting a number of awards.

The Idaho Press Club’s Best of 2015 Awards Banquet was held to honor good journalism in Idaho in all its forms — print, television, radio and online. Three EastIdahoNews.com staffers were among several hundred journalists and public relations workers from around the state who attended the annual event.

The EastIdahoNews.com newsroom was thrilled to take first place in the General Excellence — Online Only category.

“Our team has worked really hard over the past 10 months to create the best news website in east Idaho. We are honored to receive this award,” News Director Nate Eaton said.

Eaton also received a first and third place award in the Best Online Video News or Feature Story category for “Deorr Kunz disappearance: A timeline of events” and “Woman, 90, served in WWII and earned an unforgettable nickname.”

These awards add to a growing list of honors EastIdahoNews.com has received during it’s first year — including a regional Emmy nomination and several Edward R. Murrow awards.

Several other eastern Idaho news agencies also received big honors at the Idaho Press Club banquet:

  • The Idaho State Journal took second place in the General Excellence — Daily Print category. They also took first in the Page Design — Daily Print category, and second in the Special Purpose Website category for ExtremeIdaho.com. The Pocatello newspaper also brought home several sports reporting awards.
  • The Teton Valley News in Driggs took first place in the Religion Reporting — Weekly Print category and in the Education Reporting — Weekly Print category. They also received a second place nod in the Spot News Coverage — Weekly Print category.
  • KIFI Local News 8 took second place in the General Excellence — TV, Division B category. And KIDK Channel 3 took third place.
