The following is a news release from the Idaho Transportation Department.

SUGAR CITY – Replacement of a sewer line under Idaho Highway 33, south of Sugar City, will close the highway beginning Thursday. The project is scheduled for completion Monday, May 16, weather permitting.

Crews will replace a 1982 sewer line with a new sleeved pipe to improve wastewater services. Workers will cut a trench across the roadway near Salt Lake Express and then replace the sewer line.

Southbound traffic will be detoured along 7th West (1000 East) to Moody Road (2000 North) and to Idaho 33. Northbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse.

Motorists should proceed cautiously and obey all traffic signs. Drivers should be alert for children and anticipate merging traffic in the residential areas along the detour route.

Businesses and residences in the closed portion of Idaho 33 will be accessible from either end of the stretch, but the road will be closed to through traffic.

Sugar City awarded the contract for the construction to Hill & Son Excavating Inc., of St. Anthony.
