IDAHO FALLS –- A mother duck and her flock of ducklings have been happily reunited after the babies fell into a storm drain in front of Best Buy on Wednesday morning.

Shoppers saw the ducklings walk across the sewer grate and fall in as the frantic mother stood by loudly quacking.

Officers with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game were called and, with the help of Best Buy workers and Grand Teton Mall management, the ducklings were scooped up out of the ground with a butterfly net.

Two of the babies wandered into an underground sewer pipe and there were challenges reaching them but, after nearly an hour, all of the ducks were reunited as a family.

“We herded them over to a nearby irrigation ditch, which is probably where they came from,” Idaho Department of Fish and Game Officer Doug Petersen told EastIdahoNews.com.

Mall security and Idaho Department of Fish and Game officers escorted the ducks back to the ditch. At one point they stopped traffic so the duck family could make it safely home.
