UPDATE: Teens in custody after crashing parents’ car into power pole
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — Several power lines were severed after a teenager crashed a car into a power pole in rural Bonneville County.
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bryan Lovell tells EastIdahoNews.com the car belongs to the teenager’s parents, and several juveniles were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded to the one-vehicle accident just after 5 a.m. Monday.
A four door charcoal colored Lexus was found resting near a damaged power pole around 300 yards south of the Fifth West and 65th South intersection. Both the driver side and passenger side of the Lexus were damaged, including severe damage to the front end.
Authorities say a passerby reported the accident and witnessed what they believed to be the driver leave the scene. All of the teenagers had been rounded up Monday morning, according to Lovell.
Fire crews responded to a live wire down as a result of the accident. Initial reports were that a tree had at one point caught fire.
Rocky Mountain Power responded to scene around 6:30 a.m. to repair the damaged power pole and lines.
Power officials confirmed a small number of Rocky Mountain Power customers — less than 500 — were without power as a result of the accident. Power was expected to be restored by 10 a.m. Monday.
Deputies are investigating the crash and will determine if charges will be filed.
