ASHTON — Fall River Electric Cooperative will host its annual meeting for owner-members Saturday at Teton High School in Driggs.

The event at 555 East Ross Avenue is free and is open to all customers (members) who receive power from Fall River Electric. The theme this year is “The Next Greatest Thing.” This is the second time in Fall River Electric has conducted the event outside of Ashton, according to a news release.

It will kick off at 8 a.m. with a free breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns and a choice of beverage. The first 700 members attending will receive a free bamboo cutting board. Additionally, the first 500 members who visit the Co-op’s energy conservation booth on Saturday will receive free LED bulbs and a massaging showerhead designed to conserve water.

The meeting will also feature high-voltage electrical safety demonstrations, conducted by Fall River’s linemen, to show how you can avoid the dangers of downed lines and other electrical hazards. A member who attends one of these safety demonstrations will get a gas-powered chainsaw courtesy of Miller Tree Service.

Members will also be able to register for a variety of prizes, including a free home energy audit (which normally sells for $265), and a 7-in-1 propane gas smoker with a value of nearly $200. In addition, Fall River will fill up to 10 propane tanks for $5 each.

There will also be a play area, jump houses and the opportunity to ride the Fall River Propane train.

This year’s meeting features the election of three members to the co-op’s Board of Directors. District 9, which encompasses the West Yellowstone area, features incumbent Doug Schmier running unopposed, but districts 4 and 7 feature contested races for board members. District 4, which includes an area northeast of Driggs and Tetonia, has incumbent Debbie Smith being challenged by Ken Dunn, while the southern portion of Island Park, or District 7, has challenger Dennis Kennedy going against incumbent Ron Dye.

All members of Fall River Electric are eligible to vote on these board seats no matter what district they reside in. Ballots have been mailed to all members of the co-op along with instructions on how to vote online. Members can also vote in person at the Driggs event. Winners of these elections will be announced during the business meeting.

The business meeting starts at 10 a.m. It will include a financial report of the co-op and give information about the proposed consolidation with Lower Valley Energy.

“Each year we have the opportunity at our annual meeting to give our members an accounting of how we operate their utility, to report on the goals that have been achieved in the past year, and to look ahead at our at exciting future,” said Bryan Case, Fall River’s CEO and general manager. “We hope our members and their families will join us for breakfast and allow us time to get to know them better.”
