Internally decapitated boy walking again

BOISE (KBOI) — A 4-year-old is miraculously walking again, just weeks after being internally decapitated in a car crash.

KBOI 2News spoke with the boy and his mother for the first time since they were released from the hospital in Boise.

In a Skype interview, Killian told KBOI 2News that his legs were hurting. His mother credited it to all of the walking he’s been doing. She says he had his first occupational therapy Wednesday.

“He’s just doing awesome. He’s motivated. So him doing that good makes me (feel) awesome,” said Brandy Gonzalez, his mother.

Gonzalez and Killian are staying with family in Montana. They’ve been there since they were released from St. Al’s and St. Luke’s on Saturday.

She says the doctors think it will take him about three to six months to make a full recovery. Gonzalez broke nearly every limb in her body during the crash, and says it could take anywhere from six months to a year for her to heal.

“It’s all about the attitude. He’s mister go-getter. He’s excited about every new thing he can do today that he wasn’t able to do yesterday,” she said.

He mirrors his mother’s positivity in that way. She says the silver lining in all of this is the fact that she gets to spend one more year hanging out with him before he goes off to kindergarten. Of course, she wishes she could walk, but she says “it’s okay.”

She also says she’s been floored by the amount of support they’ve received.

Donations have come in from around the world on their GoFundMe page. Some have been close to a thousand dollars.

“I just broke down. I was touched. Because I’m like, they don’t even know me and they’re willing to do that.”

She thinks she’s finally found the other two good Samaritans who helped get her out of the crash. She reached out to them on Wednesday, but had not heard back immediately.
