REXBURG — An Upper Valley man has been arrested for felony grand theft after police say he stole between $10,000 and $11,000 from a construction client.

Joshua Black of Rexburg is also charged with possession of an illegal firearm. Police say Black is a convicted felon in Oregon and unable to own firearms.

The Rexburg Police Department have been investigating Black and his company, Perimeter Construction LLC, for several months.

Detective Chuck Kunsaitis said Black was hired to build a custom home for a Rexburg client. Black then allegedly misused the capital given to him for the home.

“He was given a substantial amount of money and did something else with the money,” Kunsaitis said.

Black also is accused of charging tools and materials to the client that were not used for the home.

Police say it is unclear if Joshua Black is the man’s real name. Kunsaitis said he has a lengthy police record from several states, using different names.

Black was booked into the Madison County Jail on June 23 and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
