UPDATE

EastIdahoNews.com spoke with the owner of Pretzelmaker, Blane Smith.

Smith said he reported the missing deposit to police and asked them to investigate. He did not think Burton took the money.

“We were shocked that Clayton was arrested,” Smith tells EastIdahoNews.com. “As far as I’m concerned, he still has a job here. He hasn’t been fired.”

Police spoke with other employees who were working when the deposit went missing.

“Burton had possession of the deposit, he signed off on it leaving the store, but the deposit never made it to the bank,” Idaho Falls Police spokesperson Joelyn Hansen said.

Hansen said she was not able to go into detail about the probable cause for arresting Burton, due to the fact that the charge is pending.

We will update this story as more details become available.

ORIGINAL STORY

IDAHO FALLS — A 26‐year‐old Pretzelmaker employee found himself in a twist after a bank deposit went missing.

Officers responded to the business in the Grand Teton Mall for a report of a theft around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Police say the store manager believes an employee, Clayton A. Burton, had stolen the bank deposit of $1,065 from the store on Friday.

Burton was responsible for transporting the bank deposit to the bank, but the deposit was never made. He did not have the deposit bag or the money when he was arrested.

Burton, of Idaho Falls, was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a charge of grand theft. Bond had not been set as of Tuesday morning.
