YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Rescue crews are attempting to locate a man who fell into Norris Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park Tuesday evening.

A witness reported a man in his early 20’s walked off the boardwalk and fell into a hot spring, according to a park news release.

Authorities are treating the incident as a probable fatality because the victim has not been located. Rangers are using extreme caution as they respond given the hazards of the thermal area.

The incident occurred approximately 225 yards off the boardwalk, according to a news release.

The Norris Geyser Basin is currently closed to the public.

Park officials say the investigation is ongoing and further information is expected to be released Wednesday.
