Police: Man fights officers and tries to bribe his way out of custody

IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man was arrested after police said he resisted and later tried to bribe them to let him go.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Deloy Dr. at 9 a.m. Friday for a report of a a male and female fighting in their vehicle and driving recklessly. They later arrived at a residence where the altercation continued.

Deputies arrived and were able to detain 26-year-old Tyson R. Cook at the residence, according to a news release. Deputies obtained statements from witnesses and neighbors that said Cook had been “physically fighting with another adult female in his vehicle while driving all over the roadway, running a stop sign and speeding.”

The witnesses advised that as Cook and the female arrived at their residence on Deloy Drive. The physical fight continued to their apartment resulting in Cook kicking in the door. The altercation then continued back out of the apartment and into the vehicle where a neighbor was able to help the female into their apartment and keep her away from Cook as deputies arrived on scene.

While being detained by deputies, Cook fought with officers, kicking at them and attempting to get away. During the altercation with police a deputy was struck in the knee by Cook causing injury and another experienced a minor hand injury in their attempt to gain control of Cook.

While en route to the jail, Cook offered money to the transporting deputy to let him go and even after being turned down and advised it was against the law to bribe an officer he continued with an offer of more money to just let him go.

Cook was then booked into the Bonneville County Jail on charges of felony battery on law enforcement, felony bribery of a police officer, misdemeanor domestic battery, misdemeanor malicious injury to property, misdemeanor resisting and obstructing and misdemeanor reckless driving. He is held on a $10,000 bond.

Cook was also charged with a felony probation violation, on which he has no bond.

The female victim sustained minor injuries and the deputy who sustained a knee injury was later checked at a medical facility.
