RIRIE — A police pursuit that began in Bonneville County ended near Madison County this evening as a man driving a white pickup truck crashed into a canal.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies initiated a pursuit with a 2002 white Dodge truck that had been reported stolen out of Bonneville County earlier on Tuesday.

The driver — and suspect of its theft — was believed to be Marshal Hendricks of Jefferson County. It was also known to Jefferson County authorities that Hendricks was wanted on a Jefferson County warrant for a probation violation.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday the vehicle in question was spotted by a Jefferson County deputy at approximately 4500 East and County Line Road.

The vehicle swerved and attempted to hit the deputy. This initiated the pursuit which traveled into parts of Bonneville and Madison Counties and involved deputies from those counties as well as Idaho State Police.

The pursuit ended in Ririe when the suspect tried to escape by driving between two semi-trucks, lost control of the vehicle, and rolled into the canal just east of the Ririe Maverick.

Deputies entered the canal and were able to retrieve the suspect from the vehicle. It was confirmed at this time that the suspect was Marshal Hendricks. Hendricks was taken into custody by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, and will face charges.

The suspect was taken into custody and has been transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Numerous agencies responded to the pursuit, including the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Central Fire District and Idaho Falls EMS also responded to the accident.

Hendricks will also be charged with vehicular assault on an officer and felony eluding in Jefferson County. It is likely that he will also face charges in Madison county as well.
