The following is a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

IDAHO FALLS — On July 13 at approximately 2:10 p.m., two Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made contact with two male adults walking in the area of Northgate Mile and Boulevard in Idaho Falls.

One of the males fit the description of Tanner J. Baker, who was wanted on active Bonneville County warrants. Two deputies detained the subjects and were attempting to identify them when the subject later identified as Tanner Baker dropped a backpack and fled on foot. A third deputy arrived during this time and two of them gave chase, also on foot, while a deputy stayed behind attempting to detain the other male, later identified as Derick L. Perry.

Baker ran to the South along N. Yellowstone and then over the railroad tracks toward the area of North Water. Other deputies and officers were arriving in the area and ultimately located Baker in the backyard of a residence in the 600 block of North Water. A deputy with the sheriff’s office deployed a taser on Baker which helped to allow officers to take him into custody.

During this time, Perry broke free from the remaining deputy and fled to the south through the underpass at E Street and in between the railroad tracks. As officers searched the area, they spoke to a witness at Farr’s Candy Company that described Perry as entering their business, asking to use the phone, and then disappearing back into the warehouse to hide.

An officer assisting in the area noticed Perry running from the back of the Farr’s Candy building to the Southeast toward the numbered streets. As Perry was running through backyards from Deputies in the 100 block of 6th St. an adult male resident was able to tackle Perry on his way through and hold him in the backyard. Deputies then took Perry into custody.

After Baker and Perry were in custody Deputies searched the backpack left behind by Baker and located a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Both Baker and Perry were booked into the Bonneville County Jail for resisting and obstructing.

Baker was also booked for unlawful possession of a firearm and two Bonneville County warrants – one felony for failure to comply with pretrial services and one misdemeanor for failure to appear at a pretrial conference.

It was discovered that Perry had three outstanding warrants out of Bingham County that were served on him at the jail.
