Crashes cleared after traffic is snarled all afternoon on I-15

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.

Idaho State Police have released the following information:

On Friday, July 29, 2016, at approximately 2:39 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury crash northbound on I-15 at mile marker 95, near Blackfoot.

Layne Harker, 64, of Pingree, ID was driving northbound in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup pulling a trailer in the right lane when he encountered traffic congestion. Diego Gonzalez, 21, of Blackfoot, ID, was driving northbound in the left lane of travel in a Ford Focus. Harker abruptly changed lanes, where his trailer and Gonzalez’ vehicle collided. Harker was able to pull off into the median, while Gonzalez’s vehicle came to rest in the left lane of travel.

Gonzalez and his three passengers were transported to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello by ground ambulance. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts.

The left lane of travel was blocked for approximately one and a half hours.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

UPDATE 6:30 p.m.

The crashes have been cleared from the area and traffic is moving at regular speeds.

The following are news releases from the Idaho State Police.

4:30 p.m. Idaho State Police is currently investigating multiple crashes with blockage, northbound on I-15 at milepost 93. More information will be released once it is available.

3:20 p.m. The Idaho State Police is currently investigating a two-vehicle crash northbound I-15 at mile marker 95, near Blackfoot. The left lane of travel is blocked at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
