IDAHO FALLS — A man convicted in the kidnapping and brutal assault of an Idaho Falls man was just sentenced to serve at least 12 years in prison.

Devan Crawford, 23, appeared before Judge Bruce Pickett Wednesday after pleading guilty to a felony kidnapping charge and felony use of a deadly weapon charge in January.

Crawford admitted to aiding in the kidnapping and attack of Brandon Bykonen in August 2015. He taunted Bykonen with a hatchet by rubbing the sharp edge across the Bykonen’s skin, then attacked him with the hatchet, resulting in loss of some of Bykonen’s fingers and disfigurement to his hands.

During the sentencing hearing, Bonneville County deputy prosecutor Tanner Crowther recommended Crawford serve 35 years in prison with 12 years fixed time and 23 year indeterminate. Pickett agreed with the recommendation.
