One woman killed after pickup rolls down embankment

The following is a news release from the Idaho State Police.

PRESTON — Idaho State Police are investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash northbound on U.S. Highway 91 at milepost 12.1, near Preston.

The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

James Cook, 53, of Providence, Utah was driving northbound on Highway 91 in a 2001 Ford F250 pickup. Cook was towing a fifth wheel camper trailer and a utility trailer. Cook lost control of the vehicle and the trailers. The pickup then went over the guardrail and rolled down a steep embankment.

Passenger Julie Cook, 24, of Providence, Utah died at the scene of the crash. James and his other passengers, Debra Cook, 51, and Blaine Cook, 21, both of Providence, Utah were transported by ground ambulance to Franklin County Medical Center in Preston.

All occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.

The road was completely blocked for approximately 5.5 hours.

The crash is under investigation at this time.
