The following is a news release from the Idaho Department of Transportation.

RIGBY – Resurfacing of U.S. Highway 20 between Idaho Falls and Lorenzo, funded by new revenue, will begin Monday night. Work will commence on southbound U.S. 20 at the Lorenzo Bridge. The project is scheduled for completion in August.

Crews will apply polymer-modified asphalt to travel lanes of U.S. 20 to seal and smooth the riding surface. Workers also will seal interchange ramps, crossroads and shoulders. Construction will include striping the new surface and installing thermoplastic pavement markings.

Work hours will 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night through Saturday morning to minimize traffic disruption.

During construction, travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. Motorists should anticipate merging traffic and watch for construction workers and equipment.

Commercial drivers transporting permitted loads wider than 16 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Matt Davison (208-745-5686) or Staff Engineer David Alvarez (208-745-5660) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.

Resurfacing 7.5 miles of Interstate 15 between the Bingham County line and Idaho Falls is part of this project, with work to be completed in August.

The Idaho Transportation Department awarded Geneva Rock Products Inc., of Murray, Utah, the $1.9 million contract.

The Idaho Transportation Board voted in May 2015 to move a group of projects forward using funds recently allocated by the Idaho Legislature in the state’s first transportation-revenue increase in nearly two decades. Doing so enabled the advancement of dozens of other critically needed road and bridge projects statewide in the future. This microsurfacing work is part of that initial group of projects.
