The following is a news release from the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office.

SALMON — On Saturday at approximately 3 p.m. the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received multiple satellite phone calls from outfitters on the Middlefork of the Salmon River reporting that the body of 46-year-old Mike Olson of Lyman, Wyoming, formally of Challis, had been found.

Search and rescue teams had been looking for Olson since July 19 when he was the victim of a boating accident and was presumed to have drowed. The accident occurred near the Cutthroat Cove area on the Middle Fork of the Salmon.

Mr. Olsen was located near where the Idaho and Valley county line intersects the Middlefork, several miles downstream from where the initial incident occurred on July 19.

The services of Two Bear Air Rescue out of Whitefish, Montana was requested to recover Olsen’s body due to the ruggedness of the terrain in the area. Two Bear Air sent a helicopter and rappelling team to recover and then transport the body into the Salmon airport.
