Fire no longer threatening homes as foothills blaze moves east

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has released the following update:

Residents that were asked to leave the Blackhawk Subdivision can now return to their homes. The threat to that area has been contained.

Winds have cooperated and the rest of the fire is moving further east and is still in the process of being contained.

We would like to thank the public for their cooperation and assistance.

Fire crews from the Idaho Falls/Bonneville Fire District, Shelley/Firth Fire, BLM Fire and other resources are still in the area working and we ask that you stay away from the area.

UPDATE 7:50 p.m.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has released the following update:

So far there have been no injuries and no structures have burned. The initial fire advancing toward Blackhawk Estates has been contained, however fire fighting units are battling an upper portion headed north and east from the Henry Canyon area. Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Search and Rescue Units are making preparations in the event the fire comes back toward populated areas. Conditions are windy and resources have been activated from area fire agencies to assist as needed.

We are asking anyone that does not need to be in this are to stay away so emergency personnel can work. If you do not live in this area be prepared to be turned around by deputies at traffic control points.

Bonneville County Sheriff Sgt. Bryan Lovell says houses are no longer in danger and anyone who left during the voluntary evacuations can return to their homes.

ORIGINAL STORY

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — A section of the Blackhawk Estates subdivision in the foothills east of Ammon is being evacuated due to a brush fire.

Multiple crews have responded to the fire that began around 4 p.m. Right now fire personnel and deputies with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office are in the Henry Canyon Road and Blackhawk Road area.

“Residents around this area are advised to monitor the situation in the event more evacuation is necessary,” Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bryan Lovell tells EastIdahoNews.com. “Deputies are also asking citizens that do not need to be in that area to stay away so emergency personnel can work.”
