Madison school levy passes with large majority
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — Voters in Madison School District 321 overwhelmingly voted to renew a nearly $2 million operational levy on Tuesday.
The levy, which has been in place since 2014, will be used to purchase high-resolution security cameras for school’s parking lots and buses and upgrades to computer labs and mobile learning devices. It will also pay for curriculum updates, according to a news release.
In total 1,255 people voted in the election with 81 percent voting in favor of renewing the levy. It required only a simple majority to pass.
School district officials posted a note thanking the community on their social media platforms last night:
“A big thank you to the Madison patrons who got out and voted today. The two year, operational levy passed with 81.35 percent of the vote. Thank you for trusting us with your hard earned money. Thank you for your continued support of our schools, teachers and students. Thank you for investing in the education of Madison children and youth.”
Officials say the levy is not expected to raise property taxes.
