Police continue investigating false reported shooting at Rigby Wendy’s

RIGBY — Police continue to investigate a false shooting reported at the Wendy’s fast food restaurant Saturday night but insist public safety was not in jeopardy at any time during the situation.

Jefferson County Sheriff Detective Sam Tower tells EastIdahoNews.com no one has been charged in the incident and investigators are not looking for any suspects.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Rigby Police Department responded to the reported shooting at the restaurant on Rigby Lake Dr. around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officials confirmed a man said he had been shot in the leg while in the parking lot and he was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The man, whose name has not been released, had minor injuries but police found no evidence suggesting gunfire. Witnesses on the scene did not report hearing anything like a gunshot or other loud noises.

After further investigation at the hospital, investigators say the man’s injuries does not appear to be a gunshot wound and he was released.

Tower says the incident is still under investigation and charges could be filed pending new information.
