Video shows mountain lion leap over tall fence

PASATIEMPO, Calif. — Some California residents are feeling a little less secure in their backyards after the release of a recent YouTube video. The footage from a homeowner’s surveillance camera shows a mountain lion bounding over a perimeter fence like it’s nothing more than a speed bump.

According to a report from KTVU.com, this is the third time the mountain lion has been captured by motion-triggered cameras in the past couple months. You can see footage from his earlier visit to the same property by clicking here.

So how high was the fence the cat jumped over? According to the video’s description, it’s about 6-feet tall. And while that may sound like an impressive obstacle for the cat to clear, mountain lions are reportedly capable of jumping more than twice that height if necessary.

As reported by KTVU, the video has left some residents nervous for the safety of their pets.

The Santa Cruz Puma Project said they are very familiar with this particular cat. Known as 77M, he was recently collared by their researchers. The Santa Cruz Puma Project has an interactive feature on its website that allows you to track his whereabouts.
